Can you believe that it was three years ago since Mortal Kombat X was released? We are long overdue an announcement for what will be Mortal Kombat 11, but I have a feeling we will hear something by the end of the year.
NetherRealm rebooted the Mortal Kombat series back in 2011 on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. What they did was incredible. Mortal Kombat was so much fun to play, but as much fun as it was to play it was the story that really captivated me. It was almost like a reimagining of the events of the first three games and at the time it was the most incredible story ever in a fighting game. I actually think that you could make the case that it still is now!
That Mortal Kombat game was jam-packed with content and the follow-up, Mortal Kombat X on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 took things to a whole new level. They added in some great new characters (Cassie Cage being my favorite) and once again they told a wonderful story. I did not think the story was quite as good this time around, but to me, it felt like a bridge of a story. They needed to tell this story in order to get to what Mortal Kombat 11 is going to be about.
Speaking of which, I have a feeling that Mortal Kombat 11 from a story point of view may have Raiden going down a dark path and perhaps even becoming a bit of a villain in the next game!
Injustice 2 is done and dusted and Ed Boon has been tweeting cryptic tweets for a while now so I expect a Mortal Kombat 11 announcement sooner than later. I really do not want them to redesign the wheel with the next Mortal Kombat. Just give me more of the same, but with more blood, more broken bones and more of that awesome Mortal Kombat lore!
