One of my most anticipated games is the remake of Final Fantasy VII. Square actually teased us with this back in the PlayStation 3 days with a tech demo. But now we all know that a brand new version of Final Fantasy VII is close.
Today for fun, I thought I would share with you guys what some of my favorite video game remakes are. I would love to hear what ones you love in the comments section down below.
Metal Gear Solid The Twin Snakes
Full disclosure here, I could not get into the first Metal Gear Solid at all. I know that it is a classic and people loved it, but I rented it when it was first released and I just could not get into the game at all. When Metal Gear Solid 2 was released on the PlayStation I was that blown away by the graphics that I forced myself to learn its ways and I loved it, but I still had no desire to go back to the game.
Fast forward to 2004 and Konami remake the first Metal Gear Solid game as Metal Gear Solid The Twin Snakes on the Nintendo GameCube. At the time this game was released I worked in a game store and I remember a fellow employee being very excited about this and he got me excited about it too. I cannot talk about the main difference (apart from the fantastic graphical overhaul) as I only played a few hours of the first game. But I had a much easier time getting into the Twin Snakes than I did the first Metal Gear Solid on the PlayStation. Konami did a great job and I actually think it is a game that has been forgotten about by many people.
Super Mario All-Stars
Let me start by saying that for me the definitive versions of the 16 bit Super Mario games are the ones that Nintendo released for the Game Boy Advance. However, Super Mario All-Stars is the first remake of a video game that I actually remember. Before this came out I had played the original Super Mario trilogy to death on my NES. Of course, I had moved onto the SNES and loved Super Mario World. When I found out that Nintendo was remaking the original three Mario games with updated visuals and it would all be on one cartridge, I was very excited.
Not only that, but all the game magazines at the time were really hyping up how for the first time ever us in the West could play the real Super Mario Bros 2! I loved Super Mario All-Stars and the Christmas I got it I was actually a bit lost as to what game to play first! In the end, I decided on Super Mario Bros The Lost Levels and I was very surprised at how hard it was.
There are many other video game remakes that I have loved such as the Tomb Raider Anniversary Game, the Halo 1 and 2 remake and Metroid Samus Returns to name a few. However, I would love to know what some of your favorite video game remakes are.
