Thoughts On The PlayStation Classic Lineup

No sooner had I wrote my blog post asking where the final list of games of the PlayStation Classic was and Sony announced the whole lineup! Well, today I am taking a closer look at the lineup and seeing if all the freaking out people are doing is really necessary.

The first thing to note is that still, the PlayStation Classic looks awesome. It will look great in any game room and getting a collection of these retro HD consoles is actually a lot of fun. We already knew five of the games, Tekken 3, Final Fantasy VII, Jumping Flash, Wild Arms and Ridge Racer 4. I would say that all five of those are great games and set the tone for what many thought would be an epic lineup of games.

The remaining 15 games on the PlayStation Classic are

Battle Arena Toshinden

Cool Boarders 2

Destruction Derby

Grand Theft Auto

Intelligent Qube

Metal Gear Solid

Mr. Driller

Oddworld: Abe's Odyssey

Resident Evil Director's Cut

Revelations: Persona

Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo

Syphon Filter

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six

Twisted Metal

In all honesty, none of those are what you would call bad games and there are some great titles on there such as Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil, Oddworld, and Twisted Metal, but many people have been disappointed. Where is CastleVania Symphony of the Night? Why not Destruction Derby 2? Why not Resident Evil 2? Where is Crash? Where is Spyro? Where is Streetfighter? And so on. The truth is you are never going to please everyone with a lineup of games, but there are some very puzzling inclusions on this list most notably Rainbow Six!

Some people have gone as far to cancel their pre-order as they are so disappointed with the lineup of games. Is this lineup exactly what I wanted? No, it is not, I think there are some good games on here, but the ones that I think are good have sequels that are better and would have been my preferred choice on the PlayStation Classic.

I am still very excited to get my PlayStation Classic and feel that there are more than enough awesome games on there to make it worthwhile. Plus if the NES and SNES Classics are anything to go by, someone will have this thing hacked in no time at all and we can put whatever we want on there!
