The Neo Geo Mini Is Officially Announced

This was actually leaked last week and I thought it was super excited, but I was not 100 percent convinced it was real. Well, SNK has now come out and said that, yes the Neo Geo Mini is real and it is going to be released later this year.

The leaked version that we saw was the Japanese version, Europe and America will be getting a different version with the idea being that the little arcade cabinet is going to be designed to look like the Neo Geo arcade system did in those respective territories.

The mini retro console is all the rage right now, but this one is a little different. It is an actual arcade machine and has a very small, 3.5-inch screen on it. Stickers can be added to the marquee which I think is pretty cool and you can purchase controllers separately so you can play multi-player games.

While there is a screen, it can be plugged into your TV via HDMI. The Neo Geo mini has two controller inputs which I think is a good choice. This way when it is plugged into the TV, you both have a controller instead of one player having to hold the actual console. I really, really hope that it comes with at least one controller as I for one will only be playing this on the TV.

40 games are going to be on the system including the classics like Fatal Fury, Metal Slug, Samurai Showdown, King Of Fighters and one that I am really excited about 3 Count Bout. This is not the first Neo Geo retro console as a few years back, the Neo Geo X was released. This was a handheld system that could plug into a dock and allow you to play it on the TV. The emulation when the Neo Geo X was first released was not that great, but you could purchase a pack which did improve it.

I think that the Neo Geo Mini looks really cool and it is certainly something that is on my radar. I hope that they release a price real soon and let us know how much those controllers are going to be.
