Today I thought I would have a little fun and share with you guys what in my opinion the best Sega Mega Drive/Genesis games of all time are. I thought this was the best time to do this as we have the Sega Classic Collection for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and of course the new Mini Sega Mega Drive Mini that is coming later this year.
Anyway, here are what I consider to be the greatest Sega Mega Drive/Genesis games of all time!
Streets Of Rage II:To be honest the whole Streets Of Rage series is incredible, but for me, the second game in the series is the best. Not just the best Streets Of Rage game, but one of the best scrolling beat em ups of all time. Four playable characters tons of special moves and some awesome co-op gameplay. Streets Of Rage II is the kind of game that you can put on for five minutes, but end up playing the whole game! It is a truly incredible experience and one that never ages at all.
Sonic The Hedgehog 2: Sonic is a staple on the Sega Mega Drive and I remember the hype for Sonic 2 as if it were yesterday. This is a game that all the kids in my school were so psyched for it was unreal! The first Sonic game was great, but the adding of the spin dash, longer levels, that 3D special stage and the introduction of Sonic’s new buddy Tails, Sonic 2 is one of the best games on the console. One thing that Sonic 2 does not get enough credit for is just how challenging it is. Some of the levels, especially the bosses until you get the pattern down can be really hard, but also a lot of fun.
NBA Jam: This may be a surprising one for many of you to see on my list. However, back in the day, I played this game so much it was unreal. NBA Jam was released on all consoles and while the SNES version may have looked better, NBA Jam played better and actually had sound on the Mega Drive. Sega did a great job in having amazing sports games, but this one from Acclaim is the best of the bunch. Even a person who does not like basketball would have an amazing time with this game. Midway/Acclaim would add things as the games progressed, but this first game was simple, fun and addictive.
These are my three favorite Sega Mega Drive/Genesis games of all time, but I would love to know what games you guys love on this console in the comments down below.
