With Spider-Man on PlayStation 4 month or two away and that awesome Amazing Red PlayStation 4 on my brain. I thought that it was the perfect time to look at some of the best Spider-Man games to be released the last decade or so.
I have been playing Spider-Man games since the Atari 2600 and I have decided to only focus on the more modern Spider-Man games so in other words PlayStation 2 and beyond only. Spider-Man has actually been in far more good games than bad and these are some of my favorites.
Spider-Man: Friend Or Foe
This game is also on the Wii and PS2, but it is the 360 version I am specifically talking about here. This game is set in the Toby McGuire Spider-Man Universe. What I love about this game is that it plays like an old school beat em up. Spider-Man is joined in each level by another character. What is cool about this is that it is sometimes a villain like Venom or The Green Goblin! The game is a lot of fun to play and you just plow through tons of enemies. If you like games like Streets Of Rage, Final Fight and Star Wars Jedi Power Battles, you will have a ton of fun with this.
Spider-Man: Web Of Shadows
PlayStation 3/Xbox 360
This is a game that was on every system under the sun, but it is the PS3 and 360 version I am talking about. This was the first of three awesome 3D Spider-Man games. Shattered Dimensions and Edge Of Time would follow this, but Web Of Shadows is my favorite. Anyway, there is a Symbiote invasion and only Spidey can stop it. The big gimmick of this game is the way Spider-Man can change between the normal red suit and the black suit on the fly. Each suit offers different attacks and special moves. While that is cool it was the story that really blew me away in this game!
I have heard that the Xbox version is the best, but I have only played the GameCube. This is a really fun game set in the Ultimate Comic universe. This followed up Spider-Man 2 and many people did not give it a chance. I love this game! You can play as Spider-Man and Venom. The story is fun, the graphics thanks to being cell shaded have aged incredibly well and above all else, the game is fun to play. There are these racing missions with the Human Torch that can be annoying, but apart from that, this is a solid game.
Some games that I feel deserve an honorable mention are, The Amazing Spider-Man 1 and 2, Ultimate Spider-Man on Nintendo DS, Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, Spider-Man 3 on the Xbox 360 and the Marvel Ultimate Alliance games which are not really Spidey games, but he is front and center on the box.
I hope that you guys are as excited for Spider-Man on PlayStation 4 as I am and I would love to know what your favorite Spidey games are in the comments below.
