Sonic Mania Plus Worth Is The Double Dip!

Sonic Mania Plus Worth Is The Double Dip!

Last year I purchased Sonic Mania for the Nintendo Switch and I was blown away by how good it was. The only thing I did not like was how it was digital. Well, Sega fixed that by releasing Sonic Mania Plus which I got for the Xbox One and arrived on my doorstep today. I had no problems double dipping for a game as good as this, especially as I really wanted a physical copy.

While it is great the game is a physical copy, I cannot overstate how much love Sega put into this package. The artwork is double-sided. One side is the regular artwork and the other is the classic Sega Mega Drive looking artwork. This is fantastic and I knew it was coming, but it looks even better in person. It even has classic 90’s attitude on the back as it brags about how good the game is. It also came with an art book which is very well produced. All of this I got for the very low price of £25 and from what I hear it is priced roughly the same around the world.

This new version of the game does not have any new stages the big draw is the inclusion of Mighty the Armadillo and Ray the Flying Squirrel. These guys were on a really obscure Japan only Sonic arcade game called SegaSonic, the game used a trackball. I have played it on an emulator or my original Xbox, but with a control, the game does not work.

These two new characters play very different to Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails. Mighty can walk on spikes and has this ground pound move which I am not sure if I like or not. Ray though is awesome. He has this glide mode and it works in a similar way to how Mario’s cape works in Super Mario World. I actually plan to beat the game with all the characters that is how much fun it is.

The big new mode is Encore mode. In this mode, you start as Sonic, but you unlock the other characters along the way. You can then play as these characters in a team of two, changing between them as you wish. I love the sound of this mode, but I have not yet tackled it.

I think that Sonic Mania Plus is a fantastic game and one that is well worth its asking price, even if you already bought Sonic Mania last year.
