I was a huge supporter of the PlayStation Classic. I love these mini consoles and I really, really wanted the PlayStation Classic to be good. Well, we know that what we got was not exactly what you would call good and that has been backed up by the lack of interest from the consumer.
Many stores that are selling the PlayStation Classic have slashed the price in half already. It has only been out a couple of weeks so clearly, it is not selling. The NES and SNES Classic Consoles sold very well, but to be fair, Nintendo botched this and did not have enough to meet the demand so I feel that is an unfair comparison.
What is not an unfair comparison is how much love and effort were put into the design of the NES and SNES Classic in comparison to how half assed the PlayStation Classic is. The very poor line up of games that in no way represents the best that the console had to offer. The poor emulation, the weird mix up of pal and NTSC roms, the lack of a Dual Shock controller are all valid complaints. These complaints have spread like wildfire and as a result, the PlayStation Classic has not sold as well as it could have.
Had they put games like Wipeout, Spyro the Dragon, Tomb Raider, Street Fighter Alpha, Crash Bandicoot, and other actual classic PlayStation games, I think they would have had a smash hit on their hands.
Thankfully the hacking community is coming along nicely and there is already a decent hack called BleemSync that allows you to put more games onto a USB memory stick and play them on your PlayStation Classic.
I have to be honest and say that the PlayStation Classic is my most disappointing gaming item of 2018. Sony could have struck gold with this thing, but instead, they rushed it out the door and put very little effort into it.
