While it may not be a “brand new game” Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is one of the best games on the Nintendo Switch. The game added in some new characters, weapons and had all of the tracks that were DLC in the Wii U version, but there could be more on the way.
I was a little late to this news, but Nintendo has said that there is more content coming to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and I for one cannot wait to see what it is. Nintendo expanded the Mario Kart world with 8 as they introduced Link, Hyrule, F-Zero, and Excitebike in addition to the Mario characters and tracks.
This could open things up even more for potential DLC. Kirby, Samus, Fox, Captain Falcon are just a few of the Nintendo icons that would be pretty cool to see racing alongside Mario, Luigi, Donkey Kong and the rest of the gang. Nintendo has not actually said that extra characters are coming or if it will be more content updates like the Labo update that they introduced which let you control Mario Kart 8 Deluxe with the Nintendo Labo accessory.
Nintendo has been great with DLC the last few years and to be fair this actually started on the Nintendo Wii U and they are continuing that trend with the Switch. I love Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and think that any more content Nintendo throw our way is good.
While I would love to see characters like Kirby and Samus brought into the fold. I do not know if it would be better if Nintendo held this off and instead of the next game being Mario Kart 9, have it be Mario Kart: Nintendo World Tour!
What kind of future DLC would you like to see in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and do you think it will be characters, tracks or just an update similar to the Labo one?
