Like many other people I picked up a Nintendo Switch at launch and intended to have Zelda just tide me over until Mario Kart was released, but in between Zelda and Mario Kart 8 is a real gem of a game that I hope more Switch (well and PS4 and Xbox One) owners are willing to give a try because it is a lot of fun. Of course, I am talking about Lego City Undercover.
You play the role of badass Lego cop, Chase McCain. The story is actually a lot of fun as you run around the city trying to take down bad guys and put a stop to any corruption that is going on. Fun is a word that you have to use (and one I will probably use over and over again) to describe this game as that is really what it is. To be honest Travelers Tales are not reinventing the wheel with this game and if you have played some of the other open world Lego games like Lego Marvel Super Heroes and Lego Batman 2 then you will have an idea of what to expect.
It is a lot of fun to play through the story of Lego City Undercover on the Nintendo Switch, but you will have just as much fun running around the city, jumping in the huge variety of vehicles and taking on the what feels like a million side missions. There is a ton of stuff to do in this game and it is made all the better by actually allowing you to play two player co-op. You may be wondering what the big deal about this is as all Lego games allow this. But when Lego City Undercover was first released on the Nintendo Wii U it was single player only.
Now player two just plays as a different colored version of Chase McCain, but that is not a bad thing, to be honest, and you will still have a lot of fun. I would go as far to say that after Lego Batman 2 and Lego Marvel Super Heroes this is the best Lego game I have played!
As an early adopter of the Nintendo Switch, I know that it is slim pickings at the minute, but I cannot recommend Lego City Undercover highly enough. This is just a really fun game and one that will give you many hours of enjoyment. Some may think they are buying this just so they have a new game to play on their Switch and while that may be true. The fact is, you are getting a damn fine game and one I am sure you will not regret buying.
