Last year, rumors were all over the place with people saying they had proof or that they had found a leak that Nintendo was working on a Nintendo 64 Classic Mini console. They have had great success with their NES and SNES Classic Mini’s and I am happy to report that at least here in the UK, Nintendo has been true to their word and you can still even now go out and find one in a store.
If 2018 is going to see a Nintendo 64 Classic Mini, we are surely getting close to the point where they are going to announce it? The Nintendo 64 Classic Mini could have a great line up of game such as Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, Donkey Kong 64, Diddy Kong Racing. Zelda, Mario Party and many more. Nintendo could just load this with first party games and it would be a hit, which is what they would need to do as the chances of them being allowed to put any of the games like Perfect Dark, Goldeneye, Turok, the classic wrestling games or other licensed games are slim to none.
I love the NES and SNES Classic Mini and thanks to a little work, I have them both loaded with games. Do not get me wrong I am still a collector, I just love the convenience of being able to play all these classic games, without having to use my cartridges and also with them looking great on my HD TV.
The main issue I see with the Nintendo 64 Classic Mini is the controller. The Nintendo 64 controller ages horribly, so I feel that Nintendo is going to have to do some serious work on the controller, which of course will make the price of the system increase. Not only that, local multiplayer was one of the Nintendo 64’s main selling points, so will the console come with four controllers?
While I think a Nintendo 64 Classic Mini would be great, it is perhaps the most tricky console for Nintendo to miniaturize…… I have to be honest, I have a sneaking feeling that we may see some kind of Game Boy mini released as well!!
