In one of the worst-kept secrets in gaming, DICE have officially revealed that Battlefield V will, in fact, be set during World War II.
The reveal trailer was very interesting, especially when you unavoidably compare it to Call Of Duty Black Ops IIII. It was not as flashy or as in your face as that trailer was, but the Battlefield V reveal trailer showcased all the things that fans of the series love.
Plenty of character customization, a story, grand operations and no need for a season pass! In many ways, it played it very safe. However, I will say that this is exactly what Battlefield fans want and expect and most of the reception has been positive. Of course, they have to live up to the excellent job that Activision/Sledgehammer Games did last year with Call Of Duty WWII.
A couple of weird things have happened since the Battlefield V reveal. First is the “uproar” over the fact that women are prominently featured in the game. Some people are freaking out over how historically inaccurate this is. Which is kind of weird as historical accuracy has not exactly been something Battlefield has been known for in the past, so why people are going nuts over this is beyond me.
The other thing that is interesting is the fact that DICE has decided not to get on board with the whole Battle Royale mania that is sweeping the globe right now. They have said that they do feel that Battlefield and a Battle Royale mode would be a good mix so perhaps they could add it in at a later date?
Which is actually a smart idea, Call Of Duty is not having a single player campaign in favor of a Battle Royale mode. Battlefield V on the other hand still has a single player campaign (one telling not as well known WWII stories) so adding in a Battle Royale mode at some point in 2019 would be a great way to extend the life of the game.
