In case you have been hiding in a cave, living under a rock or if you have been on Mars, the Nintendo Switch recently celebrated its first birthday. I pre ordered a Switch and on launch day got the console (the grey version my OCD wouldn’t allow me to get the one with two different colors!) The Legend Of Zelda Breath Of The Wild and an overpriced, but awesome pro controller.
Since then I have added another 17 games to my Nintendo Switch library, 13 of those being physical games. Let me start by saying right away that the Nintendo Switch is well worth it. I think that it has had a fantastic first year and if you look at the big hitters, Zelda, Mario Odyssey, Mario Kart 8, Splatoon 2 and Mario & Rabbids. That alone makes the console worth getting and also makes it one of the best first party lineups of any console in its first year.
However, the Nintendo Switch has a had a really solid year of great games. True many of these are ports from other consoles or even the Wii U, but honestly, I do not care! The Nintendo Switch as so much charm and above all else it is just a really, really fun console and right now I have no issues at all in recommending one to someone.
I was also a Wii U adopter right from launch and that first year was brutal, you literally had to wait the better part of half a year for Pikmin 3 which was not even all that great! However, Nintendo has learned from this and they really did come out swinging with the Nintendo Switch and I feel that 2018 is going to be very similar. I have a feeling that the big game for this holiday season is going to be a Smash Bros game.
With games like Kirby and Yoshi, 2018 is going to be a fun year, not to mention some games form the Wii U like the criminally underrated Hyrule Warriors and the awesome Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze.
The Nintendo Switch has had a fantastic first year, I am really having a hard time thinking of another console the past two generations that has sucked me in as much as this one has.
