This console generation has been fantastic and while I love my Xbox One. I have to admit that when it comes to exclusive games, Sony has been doing a phenomenal job with the PlayStation 4. Today I am looking at what I consider to be the best PlayStation 4 exclusives!
God Of War
For me, God Of War is one of the best games of this console generation. I was a little unsure of how I would like Kratos being a dad and also making the jump to Norse mythology as opposed to Greek. However, this game is a masterpiece. It is just so much fun to play that you always want to play for just ten minutes more so you can explore a little bit more of the world.
The story is just fantastic and if you are a fan of the series you will really love at how Kratos has developed since the events of God Of War 3. At the same time, Sony was smart to ensure that God Of War is a game that could still be enjoyed by people new to the series. There really are not enough nice words to say about God Of War. If you have not yet played it, play it!
I will be honest and say that I am only a couple of hours into Spider-Man as I write this, but Spider-Man is the fastest selling game of the year and one of the best reviewed. I like this take on Spider-Man and while I have enjoyed past Spider-Man games I really feel that Insomniac Games have done a great job of making us feel like we are Spider-Man.
Even though I am just a couple of hours in I am really impressed at how story-driven and cinematic Spider-Man is. Also, the game is absolutely gorgeous. I know there is some controversy over how the game looks now as opposed to when it was shown at different events, but I think it looks great.
Horizon Zero Dawn
A brand new IP and one that is sure to become one of Sony’s big franchises going forward. I absolutely loved Horizon Zero Dawn. So much that I have actually played through it four times. The world that has been created here is just amazing and seeing these mechanical animals (not the Marylyn Manson album!) is something that really does blow you away.
Everything about Horizon Zero Dawn feels just right. The combat, the crafting, the exploration there is not one issue I have with this game. Then there is the story. The story of Aloy discovering who she is and the truth about the world is one that I will remember forever. Aloy is one of my favorite characters that has been created for this console generation.
Here is a PlayStation 4 exclusive that seems to be forgotten about. The whole Uncharted saga can be played on the PS4 (except the Vita game) and Uncharted 4 is a fitting end to the adventures of Nathan Drake. If you like the Uncharted series then you will love this. While it does not remake the wheel in terms of gameplay. It is still a blast to play and I would say it has perfected the Uncharted formula.
The story though is the real winner here. In Nathan Drake, Sully, Elena, Chloe and the rest, Naughty Dog have created characters that over the last decade we have really come to care about. Sometimes a franchise be it a movie, TV show or in this case, a game can struggle to end things. Uncharted 4 ends things absolutely perfect. There is no shocking twist for the sake of doing so. Just a good ending to a good set of characters that we have come to love over the years.
The Last Of Us
Look I know that this is a bit of a cheat as this is also on the PlayStation 3. However, if you can look past that you will see that The Last Of Us is a truly wonderful game. Set in a really brutal future where things are not looking too good for humanity. You playing as Joel must kill bandits, people, and these creepy mutations in order to make sure that Ellie, the girl you are traveling with services.
Words cannot do the story of The Last Of Us justice. Naughty Dog absolutely nailed this. It is not just the fact that it is well written, but the voice acting is some of the best you will ever hear in a video game. It is a fun game to play do not get me wrong. But the way the game cleverly makes you care for Ellie more and more makes it so when you get to the end you are literally willing to do anything to keep her alive.
Street Fighter V
Now before you roll your eyes and send me hate mail let me explain. If we are talking the Street Fighter V that came out at launch this in no way makes this list. That was a beta version at best! However, Capcom really did add a ton of content to the game. So much that I feel it is one of the best fighting games of this console generation.
What is great about Street Fighter V is that old people like me can get in and play it like Street Fighter II. But you can also learn all the new mechanics and styles and discover just how deep the game is. Street Fighter V also has a pretty weird, but fun story. While the release may have been a mess. The Street Fighter V that we have today is one of the best fighting games around.
As a fan of horror movies, Until Dawn really struck a chord with me and I would go as far to say that this is the most underrated PlayStation 4 exclusive. Many games try to make you feel like you are in a movie, but Until Dawn does it better than most. You are part of a group in a large house in the mountains and some really weird, creepy and strange stuff is going on.
You get to play as multiple characters and the game forces you to make some very brutal decisions. Some of which you will no doubt come to regret. The best thing is that there are different ways to end the game so there is a ton of replay value here. With movie like production values, Until Dawn is one of those games that should be in every PlayStation 4 owners collection.
