Are Switch Wii U Ports Overpriced?

Let me start by saying that I do not have a problem with the amount of Wii U ports on the Nintendo Switch. However, lately, I have been questioning the asking price for these ports.

The game in question that I am talking about today is New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe which is the first big game for the Nintendo Switch in January. We have already had games like Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze, Bayonetta 2 and Hyrule Warriors.

As I said I do not mind these ports. I loved the Wii U and felt it had a strong first party line up of games. Sadly not enough people played these games so I get why Nintendo is bringing them to the Nintendo Switch.

I do feel though that these could be released at a much lower price point. Let’s look at New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe. This was a Wii U launch game and granted they have included the Luigi U DLC and have added Toadette as a new playable character, but asking full retail price for this when they have done so little to it seems a bit harsh on people’s wallets.

Especially when you look at a game like The Spyro or the Crash Bandicoot Trilogy. These were both older games and had a ton more work put into them than New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe had, but they were sold at a budget price.

I really do love Nintendo, but this is something that I do feel they need to be called out on. I think that they should be asking 40 bucks at most for these Wii U ports. I get it with a game like Mario Kart 8 as they added quite a bit of content to that. Games like Hyrule Warriors, Bayonetta 2, Donkey Kong Country and New Super Mario Bros U should not be priced at the same as a full triple-A game.
