You have no doubt heard the very sad news that Marvel legend, Stan Lee has passed away. He created and co-created some of the greatest fictional characters in history. While he is also known for his amusing cameos in many Marvel movies. Stan Lee also has appeared in some great games over the years such as the ones I am talking about today.
Spider-Man was first released on the PlayStation before finding its way to the Nintendo 64 and Sega Dreamcast. This was a fantastic title for its time and at the time it was the best Spider-Man game to date. With a fun story, full voice acting and great use of Spider-Man’s powers.
Stan Lee actually serves as the narrator for the game and it is really cool. For many people, this was a real treat and Stan Lee would also be the narrator in the sequel, Spider-Man 2: Enter Electro.
Lego Marvel Super Heroes
If you ask me Lego Marvel Super Heroes is the peak of the Lego games and even the two Lego Marvel games that followed it did not live up to what this offered. It has a ton of fan service and a really cool story that features Avengers, Spidey, X-Men, and a ton more awesome characters. Add into this an open world and you have a ton of stuff to do.
Lego Marvel Super Heroes also features my favorite of all Stan Lee’s video game cameos. He is always getting into trouble in this game and you need to save him. This is always a side mission in the levels and usually, you will have to use a certain characters superpower to save him.
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 is actually the fourth game in the series. Before this, we had Ultimate Alliance and the two X-Men Legends games. Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 is an action RPG which features story elements from the Civil War storyline. You make a team of four different characters, each with their own special moves and abilities.
Stan Lee has a rather small cameo in this one, but it is still quite memorable. He plays the role of a senator during the Civil War portion of the story. It is a fun little nod and one that is quite memorable.
The Amazing Spider-Man
The Amazing Spider-Man starring Andrew Garfield was the reboot of the Spider-Man movie franchise that was supposed to be this huge connected world. Despite the two movies being fun it never worked out that way. We did though get a couple of fun action games from Activision out of it. The first game in the series, The Amazing Spider-Man is actually way better than you would think and while Stan Lee is in both games, the first game has a much better appearance.
If you pre-ordered the game you got Stan Lee DLC which actually let you play as the man himself. What is fun about this is that he still has all of Spidey’s powers. He needs to find the pages of a comic book that he is working on.
The Lego Avengers game was not as good as the Lego Marvel Super Heroes game that came before it. It did though do a fun job of retelling the events from a few different Marvel movies such as Age of Ultron, Iron Man 3, Captain America The First Avenger and Thor the Dark World to name a few.
Now you can actually play as Stan Lee as he is an unlockable character in the game. He can turn into Stan Hulk, Iron Stan and also the Stan Buster. This is a ton of fun and one of the more amusing parts of the game.
This is more than likely the last ever video game cameo that Stan Lee will have done. Insomniacs Spider-Man is a true masterpiece and many have said that it has done for Spider-Man games what the Arkham games did for Batman. It is one of the best games of 2018 and also one of the best PlayStation exclusives as well.
Stan Lee does not have a huge part in this, but as Spidey is one of if not his favorite character it is fitting that he is in this game. He is a short order cook and while brief it works very well. It is actually very close to the cameos that he does in the MCU and that is why it made so many people smile.
Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2
Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 is the long awaited follow up and while this is a really fun game and certainly better than Lego Avengers, for me it is still not as good as that first game. The scale is much bigger with far more characters this time around and a longer story. But that one large open world is not brought back and that is what is lacking.
Stan Lee is once again a playable character in this game and he is awesome. This time Stan Lee is able to do all the things that Galactus, Thor, and Spider-Man can do. Not only that the extra Gwenpool missions that are in the game can also be done by Stan Lee!
